MULATTO OR GREY MIKKEL S. ANDERSEN AND MORTEN SKRØDER LUND 18.05.-16.06.2012
Galleri Christoffer Egelund proudly present "Mulatto or Gray", a dialogue show with new works from the two young and talented artists Mikkel S. Andersen and Morten Skrøder Lund. They both graduated from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2009 and work in a variety of medias.
Entitled "Mulatto or Gray" the two artists want to compare their artistic process to the act of mixing mulatto and gray. When they begin developing a piece, the outcome rarely ends up looking like first expected. Consciously or unconsciously, the processes are often changed around. The same thing happens when you mix the color gray. By using trial, the outcome often surprises.
Mikkel S. Andersen is especially known for his dramatic works, in which innocent playthings and depictions of living creatures are put into new and bizarre contexts. This clash is very evident in the exhibition's collage series. Here we see different depictions of adorable puppies, including them climbing a pair of female buttocks. Mikkel S. Andersen is also showing paintings made using acrylic and spray-paints. The work in this series appears more abstract, and seems to draw lines back to the drip paintings of the 1950s.
Morten Skrøder Lund participates with works of different medias. "Scala Across Tivoli CPH" is a painting that at first glance seems of a purely abstract language, but then light reflections from Scala's large glass facade seems to emerge. No doubt that the artist masters the art of creating balance in his paintings. Besides painting, he also shows the installation "Drag", a readymade, which consists of a steel gloss resonant guitar lying face down, and with the strings stretched to the gallery wall. "Drag" definitely makes you wonder and creates a debate.
Mikkel S. Andersen (b. 1978) works in painting, collage and sculpture. He is concerned with themes like bitterness, sickness, play and the joy of life, often with a good sense of humor. Andersen has exhibited at the Lan-Lan Gallery in Beijing, China, at The Central City Museum of Art in Mongolia, and he has participated in groupshows at Galleri Christoffer Egelund among others.
Morten Skrøder Lund (f.1980) has shown his works at solo exhibitions at koh-i-noor and Gallery Christian Andersen, and he has participated in groupshows at Gallery David Risley, Vestjyllands Kunstmuseum, and in Germany, Mexico and Iceland. Besides his degree from the Royal Academy in Copenhagen, he also holds a degree in Nordic Soundart from 2009.

Galleri Christoffer Egelund kan med stor fornøjelse præsentere udstillingen "Mulat eller Grå" med de to unge talentfulde kunstnere Mikkel S. Andersen og Morten Skrøder Lund. De blev begge uddannet fra det Det Kongelige Danske Kunstakademi i 2009 og arbejder inden for en lang række medier.
Med titlen "Mulat eller Grå" ønsker de to kunstnere at påpege en lighed mellem deres kunstneriske arbejdsprocesser og blandingsfarverne mulat og grå. Når de påbegynder et værk, ender resultatet sjældent med at se ud om først forventet. Bevidst eller ubevidst bliver der ofte byttet om på processer undervejs. Det samme er tilfældet, når man blander eksempelvis en grå farve. Også her prøver man sig frem, og resultatet vil ofte overraske.
Mikkel S. Andersen er især kendt for sine opsigtsvækkende værker, hvor uskyldige legetøjsobjekter og afbildninger af levende væsener indsættes i nye og bizarre kontekster. Dette clash ser man tydeligt i udstillingens collage-serie. Her møder vi variationer over et par nuttede hundehvalpe, som bl.a. kravler op ad et bjerg af nøgne, kvindelige bagdele. Udover collage deltager Mikkel S. Andersen med malerier udført med akryl og spray. Her får det abstrakte formsprog lov til at dominere, og hans værker synes at trække tråde tilbage til 1950´ernes drip painting.
Morten Skrøder Lund deltager bl.a. med maleriet "Scala Across Tivoli CPH". Efter et første indtryk af et rent abstrakt formsprog, så synes partier og lysrefleksioner fra Scalas store glasfacade at tone sig frem. Man er ikke i tvivl om, at han mestrer kunsten at skabe balance i sine billeder. Udover maleri deltager kunstneren også bl.a. med installationen "Drag", en ready made, der består af en stålblank resonansguitar med ryggen opad og strengene spændt ud til galleriets ene væg. "Drag" skaber utvivlsomt forundring og lægger op til debat.
Mikkel S. Andersen (f. 1978) arbejder inden for maleri, collage og skulptur, og tematikkerne spænder fra bitterhed, sygelighed, leg og til livsglæde, og gerne med humoren som trofast følgesvend. Han har bl.a. udstillet hos Lan-Lan Gallery i Beijing, på The Central City Museum of Art i Mongoliet samt deltaget i flere gruppeudstillinger hos Galleri Christoffer Egelund. Morten Skrøder Lund (f.1980) har bl.a. haft soloudstillinger hos udstillingsstedet koh-i-noor og Gallery Christian Andersen samt deltaget i gruppeudstillinger hos Gallery David Risley, på Vestjyllands Kunstmuseum samt i Tyskland, Mexico og på Island. Udover Kunstakademiet i København, har han også en uddannelse i Nordic Soundart fra 2009.
Galleri Christoffer Egelund inviterer dig til fernisering på udstillingen "Mulat eller Grå" fredag den 18. maj i tidsrummet kl. 16-19. Ved ferniseringen vil Mikkel S. Andersen og Morten Skrøder Lund være til stede. Udstillingen løber frem til 16. juni. Åbningstider: mandag – fredag 11-18, lørdage fra 12-16.
