ARNDT is pleased to announce the opening of the first solo exhibition of the Croatian artist JULIJE KNIFER in Berlin on 9 December 2010. The show will be on view from 10 December 2010 until 5 February 2011.
In 1960 the first meander-painting was created by Julije Knifer and with it he discovers the ideal form of expression for his ‘anti-painting’. By using monotone rhythms and the intense contrasts of black and white, he resisted the criteria of modernity. Deliberately and stoically, Knifer used this form of artistic expression from 1960 until his death in 2004. He himself defined it as ‘non-development’ - a concept that negated and eliminated any kind of development guided by the principle of the repetition of almost identical motives.

ARNDT freut sich, die erste Einzelausstellung des kroatischen Künstlers JULIJE KNIFER am 9. Dezember 2010 in Berlin zu eröffnen. Die Ausstellung ist vom 10. Dezember 2010 bis 05. Februar 2011 zu sehen.
1960 entsteht das erste Mäander-Gemälde und Julije Knifer entdeckt die Form des Mäanders als ideale Ausdrucksform für seine „Anti-Malerei“. Mit Hilfe des monotonen Rhythmus’ sowie starken schwarz-weiß Kontrasten, widersetzt er sich fortan den Kriterien der Moderne. Ein bewusst gewählter formaler Weg, den Knifer von 1960 bis zu seinem Tode 2004 stoisch bestritt und den er selbst als „Nichtentwicklung“ definierte. „Nichtentwicklung“ als das Ausschließen aller Entwicklungsmöglichkeiten mit dem Prinzip der Wiederholung eines fast identischen Motivs.
