A Plasticine Powerplay
2010, painted bronze, edition of 3
82cm x 60cm
Following a career as a sculptor in the film industry, Hedger studied Art Practice at Goldsmiths College and has been selected for the Bloomberg New Contemporaries 2008, The Matt Roberts Salon Selectors Prize 2009, the group show She Awoke With a Jerk at the Andrea Rosen Gallery 2010, and Art Review Future Greats 2011.

The work engages with notions of traditional sculpture, referencing and critiquing the ossified redundant practice of the public monument. It is not the human body that is being represented, rather a critique of representation - a post figurative presentation of the glorification of the body in the tradition of sculpture.

The use of faux materials and appearance are important parts of the process of creating an object whose authenticity is questioned by its own production. The individual works question the validity or acceptability of the processes involved both in the making of the sculpture, and the making of sculpture.
