Doll

Mixed Media Installation, Outer Dark.
First exhibited at SHOW RCA 2009.

Mechanical puppet, 30cm x 12cm

Sound composition, 16 min

Borrowing themes from the Southern Gothic movement in American Literature, I'm playing with ideas of myth, the veil and the facade in relation to that part of the world.

I recorded the sound in Tennessee.
There is a video of the piece here.
Message in a Bottle

The image on the right was taken at a solo show at Palazzo Pino Pascali in Italy.

Nest

Interactive Acoustic Sound Installation.
People were invited to pluck the strings. The piece produced an E flat chord.

I had been making pieces that relied heavily on electronics. For this piece I wanted to swing the other way, make something that didn't involve plugs.

Super String Theory was the reference. The notion that matter is the result of vibrations on tiny supersymmetric strings, it made me think of instruments, notes, music.

Scales, Chords, Spirals, Newtonian Spectrum, Victorian Colour Organs, Synesthesia, the hour glass and time.

There is a video of the piece here.
The Bells

These Bells pick sound up rather than emit sound out, amplifying the environment they inhabit.

These early pieces were about the immediate environment becoming the artwork once the piece was interacted with - enabling the space to become an instrument.

The work shown here is a selection. You can visit my website and vimeo page for further pieces, including moving image and 2D work.

Originally from Tennessee, I am a London based artist working with a variety of media. I tend to include sound somehow though in every project I make.

I like the intimacy of it and how evocative sound can be.
