My drawings are psychological structures. Their scaleis ambiguous and the construction material are oftenunrecognizable; frequently they are viewed lookingdown at from above, an omniscient perspective. Theysit on barren, plane a locale that only exists as anidea. It is a place of utter contradiction, a land ofprimordial human existence, the very beginnings ofculture and somehow a representation of an end. Its anunpeopled place, either they are long gone and onlyremnants of their work remain or they have yet to beconceived. Taken as a whole the work is constantlyundulating between latent potentiality and fadeddreams. At the level of the individual this is thespace that is on either side of the center stroke ofour consciousness. For a culture, on one side its thewreck of society; Edo Japan or the pioneer west, onthe other it’s a city plan imagined or what we canteven imagine.
