Hopefully the work made you laugh (if not an all out guffaw then at least a chuckle) and… you’ll think about it later. This is the world through suburban American eyes; a flat, non-descript, colorful, la-la-land inhabited by glossy, cartooned, cardboard cutout grotesqueries where life is disjointed and people seem grounded. A world that ‘broke it down’ and realized it was sanitized and plastic and is responding by becoming raw and hyper-real.
The work answers the call for moral clarity by visually placing contemporary life into religious constructs; conceptually, pairing history painting with pop iconography. Spurred on by the question of what good is it to be self-aware if you’ll only embrace those faults… it’s a satire. - - - Ain’t it beautiful.
