My current body of work centers on the re-appropriation of objects and images that have been manufactured for practical commercial uses. My process involves removing common styrofoam packaging inserts from their intended context (namely, cardboard boxes where they cradle electronic devices), and transforming them into sculptural forms and paintings.

Using the inserts as molds, I combine and reconfigure ostensibly innocuous and lightweight styrofoam shapes into more substantial sculptural forms. This basic transmutation of materials is seductive, encouraging a closer examination of the pure forms.

Painting offers another means of reconsidering these utilitarian objects. By simplifying and colorizing the medium in two dimensions, I again expose the spatial essence of objects born out of industrial mass-production. By manipulating dimensions and medium, I encourage these compositions to reveal the fascinating interplay between various forms and their complex, surprising beauty.
